I have been asked this question more times than I can count: Is yoga the fix for everything?
The short answer is no. But the longer answer is… it depends on what your “fix” is.
If you are looking for a nervous system reset, a way to relieve stress, and a way to bring calm into the busyness of your hectic schedule, then yes, yoga can absolutely be your fix.
My Journey With Yoga
I have been practicing yoga for over 10 years. When I first started, I mainly used it as movement and hoped it might help me lose some weight.
But the truth is, yoga alone isn’t typically intense enough to be the only form of movement for weight loss. Health and weight management usually come down to about 80% nutrition and 20% movement. That said, yoga is still incredible for the body. For beginners especially, it helps build muscle using your own body weight while improving flexibility and mobility.
Over time though, I realized something much deeper. My life didn’t really need yoga for the physical reasons as much as it needed it for the mental, emotional, and spiritual ones. That realization is where everything began to shift. Learning the Deeper Meaning of Yoga.
A year ago, I began my journey to becoming a 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher, and during my training I learned so many valuable lessons. One of the most powerful was learning about pranayama - the breath.
Simply pausing and breathing through difficult moments can reset the nervous system. It gives your body a chance to slow down, settle, and come back into balance.
I also discovered that yoga is so much more than just asanas (the poses) - like soooo much more.
“I Can Do Hard Things”
One of the most powerful things yoga taught me happens during challenging poses.
When you breathe deeply and stay present in a pose that feels difficult, something interesting happens. Your mind calms just enough to stay with it.
And suddenly you realize:
“I can do hard things.”
Taking that mindset off the mat and into everyday life has helped “fix” a lot of things for me.
When life becomes overwhelming or loud, I return to my breath. My nervous system resets, my body softens, and I find the strength to move through whatever is in front of me.
So… Is Yoga the Fix for Everything?
Maybe not everything.
But I truly believe yoga can help people heal their minds in a natural way. It can bring awareness, balance, and a beautiful reset for the nervous system.
And sometimes, that’s exactly the kind of “fix” we need.
So honestly…
Just get on the damn mat.
Namaste
